THE LAST SPIKE 1881 a painting by Thomas Hill depicts the ceremony held at Promontory Point Utah on May 10 1869 marking the completion of the transcontinental railroad. Among the crowd of notables Leland Stanford in center with hammer F.L. Vandenberg kneeling with gold spike Collis Potter Huntington behind and to right of Stanford and Charles Crocker in profile holding his hat standing to the right on two women.
