Anthracite Coal Strike Commission was appointed by President Roosevelt to study the economics of the coal industry and propose a settlement of the long United Mine Works strike of 1902. It was the first time a U.S. President approached a labor dispute with neutrality, acknowledging the legitimacy of organized labor. Carroll D.
