Fanny Elssler (1810-1884), Austrian ballerina, indirectly caused a riot in New York during her 1840 tour. German parade musicians accompanying Fanny Elssler were attacked by a gang of anti-foreigner toughs called Soap-Locks for the long, soaped hair.
