Model Released. Anaesthetist checking his equipment during a cardiac catheterization investigation. His patient, a boy aged 12 years, is suffering from a type of congenital heart defect. Cardiac catheterization, performed on infants under general anaesthetic, is used to visualise blood flow to & from the heart through the major arteries & in the coronary arteries that supply the heart. A catheter is inserted into a superficial artery & manipulated using digital X- ray imaging towards the heart. Once in place, a radio-opaque dye is injected to outline blood flow in the adjacent vessels. Models: Anaesthetist Dr Girling
