Homo habilis (OH 8) foot bones. Assortment of bones of the foot from the fossil hominid Homo habilis (OH 8). The name means: \handy man\". These bones comprise the variously-shaped tarsus bones and the five elongated metatarsals; a model of these bones fitted together is seen at top. The bones of the foot of H. habilis suggest an upright gait, like H. erectus, and this is also true of the hip anatomy. This specimen OH 8 was found at Olduvai Gorge in Tanzania. Although H. habilis had a relatively small brain, skeletal remains suggest it had a large body size. It used stone tools. The species had a wide distribution in Africa, and lived from 2.0 to 1.6 million years ago."
