The Compleat Surveyor (1722), fifth edition title page. This work, by the English land surveyor William Leybourn (1626-1716), was originally published in 1653. It described the process of surveying, and became a standard work used by property surveyors when drawing up maps of private estates. The text on this title page includes the title (top), followed by a description of the contents, the author's name, details of the number of volumes (nine), an appendix (by Samuel Cunn), and the details of the London publishers (bottom).
