Alzheimer's drug action simulation. Molecular model simulation of a drug (red and white) attacking the protein fibrils (ribbons) that are believed to be the cause of Alzheimer's disease. The symptoms of Alzheimer's disease include memory loss, personality changes and extreme confusion. Many elderly people develop this disease. There is no cure and death occurs after several years of decline. This work is being carried out at Oak Ridge National Laboratory, Tennessee, USA. Image published in 2009.
