Waxing crescent Moon. As the Moon orbits the Earth, the amount of sunlight on its visible hemisphere varies in a regular 28-day cycle. This is a waxing crescent Moon one day after the First Quarter, about 7 days into the cycle. As the cycle progresses, darkness recedes to the right as the lunar day progresses. Photographed in the northern hemisphere from the Starhome Observatory, California, USA.
