Kamchatka is a remote peninsula in the Russian Far East, first visited by Russian explorers in the 17th century and inhabited by a variety of indigenous peoples. This engraving is from a 1771 volume of Allgemeine Historie der Reisen zu Wasser und Lande (General history of travel by sea and land), a travelogue edited by the German scholar Johann Joachim Schwabe (1714-1784).
