Constellation of Perseus, 16th century artwork. The text labels are in Latin. The artwork shows the warrior Perseus, the mythological representation of this constellation, wearing winged boots and holding the head of the gorgon Medusa. A celestial co-ordinate system of longitude and latitude is given for the stars (asterisks). This artwork is from Theatrum mundi et temporis (1588) by the Italian astronomer and scholar Giovanni Paolo Gallucci (1538-1621). This star atlas of several volumes included artworks depicting the constellations. The title translates as 'Theatre of the World and Time'. This work was published in Venice.
