Pine cone pollen release. The white powder seen here is the pollen being released from a male pine cone when the branch is shaken. This pine tree is a stone pine (Pinus pinea). The cone of this tree is a broad ovoid, 8-15 centimetres long, and takes 36 months to mature. This is a young pine cone that has not yet fully matured. Photographed in Andalucia, Spain.
