Pine marten droppings. These droppings (faeces) on a forest path were produced by a pine marten (Martes martes). They contain red berries from the cowberry or lingonberry plant (Vaccinium vitis-idaea). Many plants depend on animals to spread their seeds in droppings such as these. The pine marten is an omnivorous mammal, related to the weasel. It is about the same size as the domestic cat. Photographed in November, in the Highland Region of Scotland.
