Glacial striae on fractured marble. Glacial striae (the vertical scratch marks) are marks made on rocks by other rocks due to the weight of ice as a glacier passes overhead. This sample of marble is around 50 centimetres across. Photographed in Svalbard, an Arctic archipelago governed by Norway.
