Cooked red king crab (Paralithodes camtschaticus). This crab is native to the Bering Sea and the northern Pacific Ocean. Like other decapods (crabs and lobsters) this marine crustacean scavenges on the seabed. Red king crabs can reach enormous sizes, as much as 28 centimetres across the carapace, and with a leg span of nearly 2 metres. This crab is a highly-prized delicacy and is commercially fished. When cooked, it turns this red colour. For an uncooked red king crab, see C006/9561. Photographed in Alaska.
