Crimson waxcap (Hygrocybe punicea) mushrooms, artwork. This fungus is found in northern Europe. The mushrooms (fruiting bodies) have a bell-shaped cap (lower right) that later flattens out (upper left). Spores are produced on the underside from the gills (seen at lower centre). The stalk (stipe) can reach 9 centimetres in length.
