Winchester College cloister arcades. The arcades are these arched corridors enclosing a rectangular open space. Winchester College is a public (fee-paying) school located in Winchester, England. It was founded in 1382, and the cloisters area is one of several parts of the school that date back to the 14th century. The cloister ceilings are of a design known as a wagon roof, consisting of curved wooden beams. Carved stone arches provide lighting, and numerous monuments and memorials are mounted on the cloister walls.
