Swiss alpine village. This is the village of Ritorto, located in Val Bavona, a steep glacial valley in the larger Maggia Valley, in the Ticino region of Switzerland. Val Bavona is said to be the narrowest valley in Switzerland. These traditional stone houses were built amidst the large rocks (one at lower right) deposited here from an ancient rockfall that took place when the glaciers retreated from the area. The village and rockfall is a feature on a historical trail within Val Bavona. Photographed in summer.
