Garganey (Anas querquedula), 19th century artwork. This is the male form of this small dabbling duck which inhabits lakes and rivers, feeding on plant matter at or near the surface of the water. This duck breeds in Europe and western Asia, migrating to southern Africa and Australasia for the northern hemisphere winter. Artwork published in 1866.
