Frau im Mond. Artwork of a Moon rocket, representing the story told in the film Woman in the Moon (German: Frau im Mond). This science fiction silent film, released in 1929, was written and directed by the Austrian film-maker Fritz Lang, based on a novel by his wife. It was one of the earliest science fiction films, and brought the concept of rocket travel to the public. The film was not a success at the box office. One of the film's consultants was the German rocket pioneer Hermann Oberth.
