Liang Bua cave exploration. Measuring equipment and notebook next to fragments of flint found in earth from the Liang Bua Cave, Flores island, Indonesia, during archaeological excavations. This cave is the site of a discovery in 2003 of a potentially new species of human, named Homo floresiensis. The earth was washed and sieved to extract any fragments like this. Photographed in August 2007.
