Built by the People's Republic of China in the 1960s, the TAZARA railway passes through some spectacular country to link Tanzania's main seaport at Dar-es-Salaam with Kapiri Mposhi in Northern Zambia's copper belt. It became Zambia's lifeline to export copper during the years of apartheid in South Africa.
