A Nubian woman, her face covered by her headscarf to denote her Muslim belief, stands outside the verandah of her home. The style of verandah arch is typical of the Nubian people. The village where she lives on the River Nile, close to Shaallal arraabia or the 4th Cataract, will be flooded in 2008 when a huge Arab funded, Chinese-built, hydro-electric dam will be completed. Already, some villages have been re-located to irrigated land far away.
