Four small boys look out to sea from where they sit on a bamboo fishing boat on the Praia das Burros on the island of Princip?. Praia das Burros means beach of stupid people. It was named this because it was first settled by runaway slaves, and no one believed they would survive there - and of course they did. Sao Tom? and Princip? is Africa's second smallest country with a population of 193 000. It consists of two mountainous islands in the Gulf of New Guinea, straddling the equator, west of Gabon. Princip? is the smaller of the two islands with a population of around 5000.
