A shovel-snouted lizard (Aporosaura anchitae) pauses on a dune at Sossusvlei in the Namib-Naukluft Park. To prevent overheating, this lizard raises its tail and two legs at a time off the hot surface of the sand. When threatened, it will submerge itself in the sand.
