A small boy, his body smeared with a mixture of red ochre, butterfat and herbs, wears a round white-beaded necklace, called ombwari, a tradition of all Himba people. His other ornament is made of metal beads backed onto leather, and is embellished with two cowries from Africa's Atlantic Coastline. The Himba are Herero-speaking Bantu nomads who live in the harsh, dry but starkly beautiful landscape of remote northwest Namibia. Purros
