A young Himba girl has her hair in two plaits, the customary style of young girls until adolescence. Her large, round white-beaded necklace, called ombwari, is worn by both sexes. Her other neck ornament is made from metal beads backed onto leather. The Himba are Herero-speaking Bantu nomads who live in the harsh, dry but starkly beautiful landscape of remote northwest Namibia. Purros
