A suburb of Antananarivo, the capital city of Madagascar and home to about 3 million people. The sprawling city is built on two ridges with the Queen's Palace _ now a ruin - built on top of the largest hill. Paddy fields are tended along rivers and swamps right to the boundaries of the city. Some of the waterways are now clogged with water hyacinths _ a menace, which can only be eradicated by introducing weevils that feed on them.
