The apse of the Severan Basilica in the ancient Roman city of Leptis Magna. It was modelled on the Basilica Ulpia in the Trajan Forum in Rome. Emperor Septimus Severan began the building which was completed by his son, Caracalla, in AD216. The two tall Corinthian columns are made of red granite with octagonal pedestals in marble surrounded by a baroque architrave with two winged griffins.
