The ochre worn by a married Hamar girl glows deep red in the late afternoon light. The Hamar are semi-nomadic pastoralists of Southwest Ethiopia whose women and girls wear striking traditional dress. Skins are widely used for clothing and heavy metal necklaces, bracelets and anklets form part of a woman's adornments. Cowries are also popular to embellish their appearance.
