A male Mountain Nyala (Tragelaphus buxtoni) in the Bale Mountains of Southern Ethiopia. Only males have spiral, ivory-tipped horns; their coats are darker than females and they can be twice as heavy. Well adapted to temperature extremes, this rare and endangered antelope survives in isolated pockets above 9,000 feet. It is an endemic species, which was unknown to science until 1910.
