At the confluence of the Mo-chu and Pho-chu Rivers, the beautifully located 17th century Punakha Dzong which was the effective winter capital of Bhutan for 300 years until 1964. The first King of Bhutan, Ugyen Wangchuck was crowned at Punakha Dzong in December 1907
