Poached elephant tusks are sold for ivory, which is illegal in many countries, and is carefully monitored. Rhino horns are ground up and used in traditional medicines. This practice is also illegal. Extensive poaching of these animals has led to a dramatic reduction in their numbers, and both are now classified as endangered species.
