Verreaux's sifaka lemur (Propithecus verreauxi verreauxi) clinging to a tree trunk. This lemur is endemic to the forests of south- western Madagascar, feeding on fruits, flowers, bark and leaves. It lives in small matriarchal groups, usually numbering between 5 and 10 individuals. This lemur is named for its distinctive inssi-fa-kains call, which is used as a warning to other group members when predators are near. It is a large lemur, measuring up to 110 centimetres in length. Destruction of the forests of Madagascar means that Verreaux's sifaka is becoming increasingly rare. Photographed in October in Madagascar.
