Bar bellied pitta (Pitta elliotii) perched on a branch. Pittas are colourful birds that inhabit tropical rainforests in South-East Asia, Africa, Australia and are found throughout the Malay Archipelago. Pittas forage on the ground for insects and other invertebrate prey. Many have a musical call. They range from 15-28 centimetres in size.
