Juvenile Hawaiian hawk (Buteo solitarius) perched in a tree. This bird of prey is native to the island of Hawaii and is an endangered species. It can reach up to 46 centimetres in length, although the female is larger than the male. It breeds from March to September and usually lays only one egg. The Hawaiian hawk feeds on rodents, insects, small birds and some game birds. Photographed at Mauna Kea, in Hawaii, USA.
