Male mallard (Anas platyrhynchos). The mallard, a type of duck, breeds in the temperate and sub-tropical areas of North America, Europe and Asia, migrating further south in the winter. The breeding males have distinctive green heads and black-tipped yellow bills, whereas the non-breeding males have drabber brown plumage like the female birds. Photographed in Hertfordshire, England.
