Palmate newt, Triturus helvecticus found in Europe. This specimen is seen climbing in a gorse bush at night in Gors Goch, Angelsey, Wales, during the summer (1983). Its tail is laterally compressed and is the same length as the body. The females grow over 9 cm in length whereas the smaller males do not exceed 8 cm.
