Peppered moth (Biston betularia). This species of moth is well known for the study of its evolution. Originally it would have had light colouration which camouflaged it against light coloured trees and plants. However, they developed their present dark colouring due to pollution during the industrial revolution in England. Most light coloured moths died out, but they are gradually increasing in population.
