Pyrochroa beetle larva. Macrophotograph of a Pyrochroa coccinea beetle larva in its dead wood habitat. Pyrochroa beetles are found at the edges of forests in May & June, hunting in the flowers for other insects. The Pyrochroa beetle lays its eggs in dead wood, and the larva hunts beneath the bark for insects, especially the Scolytidae beetles which destroy living trees.
