Male bladder grasshopper (Pneumora inanis) on dead wood. Bladder grasshoppers (Pneumoridae) are endemic to Africa. Most of the males of species in this family are distinguished by having an inflated abdomen (as here), the purpose of which is to amplify the sound it creates when it rubs its legs against its abdomen. Photographed in the De Hoop Nature Reserve, South Africa.
