Desert locust nymph (Schitocerca gregaria) on a leaf. This nymph, also known as a hopper, is in its gregarious form. Desert locust hoppers change their behaviour and appearance in response to overcrowding. It is in this form that the insect swarms and causes the devastation to crops which it is known for. It is a particularly harmful agricultural pest in Africa, the Middle East and Asia.
