Froghopper. Coloured scanning electron micrograph (SEM) of a froghopper, spittle bug or cuckoo-spit insect (family Cercopidae) on a leaf. One of its compound eyes (red, upper centre) and wings (red, upper left) can be seen. These bugs are named due to their excellent leaping ability. They feed on plants using their needle-like mouthparts (not seen). The nymphs produce a protective foamy substance resembling spit. Magnification unknown.
