Peripatus on a leaf (phylum Onychophora). The peripatus, or velvet worm, shares characteristics of both Annelids (segmented worms and leeches) and Arthropods (insects, arachnids and crustaceans) although is a members of neither phylum. The 10 genera of Onychophora inhabit tropical and subtropical regions worldwide. They navigate their way using antennae on their head (top) and capture their prey by immobilizing them with a sticky fluid. Photographed in Yasuni National Park, Amazon rainforest, Ecuador.
