Auriga constellation, historical artwork. Engraving of Auriga on a chariot with Latin text. Auriga was a charioteer, a slave who drove a biga (chariot), in Roman times. The black asterisks show the position of the stars that make up this constellation. The shape of the constellation inspired the name that was given to it. This artwork is from Poeticon Astronomicon (Poetic Astronomy), a 'star atlas' by Hyginus that was published in 1482.
