Ticket for a Lunardi balloon flight. Admission ticket for spectators to see a balloon ascent by the Italian balloonist Vincent Lunardi (1759- 1806). Lunardi performed several such ascents. The first, and the first ever balloon ascent in England, was from the Moorfields Artillery Grounds, London, on 15 September 1784. Lunardi went on to make many more ascents in front of large crowds, drawn by the novelty of the occasion. The balloon shown here is an experimental design that has oars for steering.
