MODEL RELEASED. Steel production. Worker at a steelworks standing in front of a blast furnace. The blast furnace is used to extract iron from its ore. The iron ore, limestone and coke are added to the top of the furnace while blasts of hot air are blown into the bottom of the furnace. This process leads to the formation of molten iron and slag, a liquid containing impurities removed from the iron. The iron and slag are drained off from the bottom of the furnace.
