Cardiff Bay barrage, Cardiff, Wales, UK, opening to allow a small boat to pass through. The barrage was constructed as part of a regeneration project to improve Cardiff's disused docklands and to attract investment into the area. The barrage creates a large freshwater lake, which includes a fish pass to allow salmon into the River Taff and the River Ely. Construction began in 1994 and the barrage was completed in 1999. Photographed in 2005.
