Nuclear power station steam pipes. Expansion loops in steam pipes at the Sellafield Nuclear Power Station in Cumbria, England. Nuclear operations here go back to the 1940s and 1950s, including reprocessing of nuclear fuel, and prototype and operational nuclear power plants. The site was renamed Sellafield in 1981. The current power station is the Sellafield MOX plant, using a mixed oxide fuel that blends plutonium and uranium. Construction of the MOX plant was completed in 1997.
