Memorials to the Columbia and Challenger space shuttle disasters, Arlington National Cemetery, Washington D.C., USA. The memorial on the right honours the 7 crew members of the Columbia space shuttle, who were killed in that shuttle's 28th mission when it disintegrated upon re-entry over Texas on 1st February 2003. The memorial on the left is for the 7 crew members of the Challenger shuttle, which exploded 73 seconds after launching on the 28th January 1986. The central memorial honours the 8 soldiers killed attempting to rescue American hostages from Iran on 25th April, 1980.
