Time dilation is a phenomenon in which objects experiencing higher gravitational fields experience a slower passage of time than those experiencing lower gravity. As such, a clock falling into a high-gravity black hole would appear to run more and more slowly to an outside observer. The theory was predicted by General Relativity, and backed up by experiments.
